Be Kind to Animals Week is May 3-9

Posted by Kimberly on 8th May 2009

-1The American Humane Association is supported by HomeAgain by donating $1 for every single pet registered to BringPetsHome.com program during Be Kind to Animals Week.

That’s pretty cool, but what is it for?
BringPetsHome.com is a fundraising Web site specifically created to help shelter animals.

As you saw in my last post, we saved a terrier mix dog from an intersection in Dallas, Texas, but the dog didn’t have any identification on it. We couldn’t call an owner or bring the dog home.

We had to bring this baby to a shelter in the hopes that their owner has reported them missing.

So, HomeAgain is encouraging pet owners to be sure to have an ID tag on your pet to prevent this from happening. In the process, when registering with BringPetsHome.com, you’ll be donating to help shelter animals too for their food and medical care.

Also, when you purchase anything online from the retailers listed on that site, such as WalMart, Office Depot, Macy’s, Amazon, etc, a percentage of your purchase will be donated by the retailers to this cause, at no extra cost to you. How awesome is that?

FYI: The Home Again Web Site has helped recover 500,000 lost pets to their owners. That’s absolutely fantastic, isn’t it?

They do seem to promote microchipping your pets as an identification that can never fall off of a dog or become impossible to read.

We Saved a Terrier Pooch Today!

Posted by Kimberly on 3rd May 2009

On the way home from church today in Dallas, we came to a busy intersection and what do I see?

I see a poor, little terrier mix dog confused and scared trying to make it through the cars.

new-downloads-002What Did I Do?
In my church dress and high heels, I ran out to get the dog to safety on the sidewalk.

She was frightened, but glad at the same time that someone helped her out. She rolled over on her back with her belly to me, hoping I wouldn’t hurt her.

Well, she certainly came across the right person then!

She had no tag, she had mats in her hair and was full of burrs and was dirty too.

I ran back to the vehicle with her where my husband, with an understanding look on his face, started to scan the immediate area, as we drove around, trying to see if someone was looking for her, in case she just ran out of a yard or something.

The problem was that we were in an industrial area and there weren’t any houses and no one searching for a lost pet.

So, we went to the closest animal shelter, but it is Sunday and they’re not open. So, we called the number provided and a person called us to come collect her and see if she had a chip or could be reunited with an owner that reported her missing.

She was so sweet and very happy to give me a good cuddle for 2 hrs. While we waited, we gave her some food and water, as she was clearly hungry and very thirsty.

What a sweetheart – I think she was a bit older too.

new-downloads-003She looked like she was mixed with a Yorkshire terrier or similar black & tan terrier and maybe a Schnauzer or a  Poodle.

If you’re looking for this dog, she was found at the intersection of Plano Rd. & Forest Ln. in Garland, Texas (suburb of Dallas).

She has a partially cleft nose and her right ear missing, but you wouldn’t really know it unless you had a good look.

Please contact Garland Animal Services to reconnect with her.

She is such a sweet soul! I would miss her terribly if she went missing from our home – I fell in love with her immediately!

It could very well be that she got lost because of the terrible thunderstorms we had last night that knocked down numerous fences in our area…Poor baby!

Who knows, thunder and lightning used to scare one of our dogs until they were so fearful, they’d run and hide anywhere.

* PLEASE: Keep a collar and tags on your dog! We could have simply drove her home. Thank God we found her before she got injured out there!

new-downloads-004I hope she found her way back to her owner’s loving arms! I would be going absolutely crazy without her!

If this is your dog – you are truly blessed to have her in your life – she is an ANGEL!

Very well behaved, so gentle and just as sweet as pie!

She seemed to be really exhausted from her ordeal, as she snuggled up into my arms and had a good, little rest.

I’m so glad she let me Read the rest of this entry »

An Online Service That Will Help You Find Your Lost or Stolen Pets Immediately

Posted by Kimberly on 2nd June 2008

I posted about this amazing service I found online this week that proactively helps you find your lost or stolen pets by actually calling your neighbors and alerting them to the fact that your animal is lost or stolen.

It’s like an Amber Alert for your pets! Also, this service is a National Do Not Call Registry exempt organization…So, your message will get out to everyone!

This was too valuable information not to share on this blog too, as I know I would be completely devastated if anything ever happened to my darlings…So, please go check out the post and bookmark the site for future reference.

Have You Lost A Pet? Here’s a Site To Help You Find Them!

Also, keep in mind, if you find someone’s animal that was lost, you can also use this service to help track down their owners.

I hope you find this Terrier Safety post helpful and information! Again, please bookmark this service for future reference. Until next time…

Love Your Terrier,

Kimberly Edwards :)

P.S. I truly hope you never have to use this service.

How Rescued Pitbulls from Michael Vick’s Dog Fighting Ring are Doing Today

Posted by Kimberly on 14th April 2008

Terrier Newsflash:

I would like to share a video with you that was “stumbled” to me from a friend, kelliannie…

pittiesoftheroundtable.JPGIt is a wonderful and fun video showing 2 of the American pitbull terriers that were rescued from the whole “Michael Vick Dog Fighting Ring”, and how they are doing today. Very encouraging!

I can’t embed it on my blog, so I can only give you a link for it…

It is well worth the watch! Click on the Photo Above or Go to the Link Below:

Meeting Some Vicktory Dogs

Many shelters still automatically put these dogs down. That’s too bad…Are we showing prejudice and lack of understanding?

I hope you enjoyed this video brought to you by Terrier Lover! Until next time…

Love Your Terrier,

Kimberly Edwards :)

P.S. Add me as a friend on Stumble Upon!

Killing Animals Is NOT Art – Sign The Petition To Stop This Disgusting Atrocity!

Posted by Kimberly on 13th April 2008

Terrier Newsflash:

This post is not specifically about terriers, but about dogs and animal welfare in general!

It saddens me and sickens me that a person can be so hateful and unfeeling about a dog’s life.

***

honduriananimalkillingforart.jpgArtist, Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, from Costa Rico in Central America, created an art exhibition in a Nicaraguan art gallery, where he hunted a street dog, tied it to the wall in the gallery and allowed it to die of hunger and thirst slowly for all to view…

Photo above: The corpse of the poor, starved dog that the artist, Guillermo Vargus Habacuc, murdered!

He explained that the cowardly act of sadism is art…Are you kidding me? No…

Now, he has been invited to participate in the 2008 prestigious Central American Biennial of Honduras…Are you kidding me? No…

What Can You Do?

Go to Sign the Petition that requests his invitation to this show be revoked!

Petition Against Artist, Guillermo Vargus Habacuc

***

In my opinion, THIS IS NOT ART…It is revolting, evil, disgusting and a terrible shame! Guillermo Vargas Habacuc should be punished in a comparable way for the pain, hurt and disregard for a creature’s life!

I hope you will take action in regards to this post on Terrier Lover! Until next time…

Love Your Terrier,

Kimberly Edwards :(

P.S. It’s up to you and me to take responsibility of making a stand for these helpless animals that have no voice!

Greetings With Love From A Lonely Dog

Posted by Kimberly on 9th March 2008

Greetings With Love From A Lonely Dog

I wish someone would tell me what it is that I’ve done wrong.

Why do I have to stay chained up and be left alone so long?

They seemed so glad to have me when I came here as a pup,

There were so many things we’d do while I was growing up.

The Master said he’d train me as a companion and a friend.

The Mistress said she’d never fear to be left alone again.

The children said they’d Read the rest of this entry »

Cairn Terriers That Need Your Help!

Posted by Kimberly on 31st December 2007

One of my good friends, Deirdre, on Facebook emailed me this tonight, and I needed to share it with you quickly…

Read on to save Cairn Terriers in Need…

***

honey-bunny.JPG“I have some close friends that volunteer for the CP Cairn Rescue group. They are hard working individuals that go to puppy mills and auctions and take as many of the dogs as they can and place them in safe homes. This takes a lot of money … especially since almost all of the dogs required alot of medical treatment when they are rescued.

This group is currently involved in a ‘contest’ for donations. The group that receives the most number of donations (not the overall dollar amount) will have Yahoo match the donations. They reeeeeeally need the money in order to continue saving these dogs from a life of cruelty and suffering. PLEASE – the minimum donation is $10.00 (and is tax deductable) and the contest ends TOMORROW! Please, please, please give! They are currently in 2nd place … but only by a few donations.

Follow this link and donate to CP Cairn Rescue Group:

Thanks Kim!”
