The Cesky Terrier is a Rare & Newer Breed

ceskyterrier.jpgThe Cesky Terrier, also known as the Bohemian terrier, proves to be somewhat of an elusive and rare breed in North America…In fact, I have never actually seen one in person…

This would probably be because it is a much newer European breed. To be more specific, the Cesky is a Czechoslovakian breed of dog bred by the late Mr. Horak started in 1949.

The origin of the Cesky Terrier is from crossing the Sealyham terrier with the Scottish terrier. The reason? Well, it is said that when hunting, Mr. Horak’s Scotties would get stuck when they would “go to ground”. Being interested in breeding animals from the age of 9, he wanted to create a breed that would not get stuck…

By the 1963, the Cesky was recognized as the newest of dog breeds by the FCI.

Cesky’s come in a variety of 2 colors: Gray & Light Brown…any combination of these is accepted…In fact, there have only been 4 Cesky terriers, total, born that were all Read the rest of this entry »

Otter Hunter – The Sealyham Terrier

Often thought of as one of the strangest looking terriers, to me, they are endearing! Unique is beautiful in this case!

The Sealyham Terrier: Otter Terrier

The Sealyham Terrier has as its origin the region of Sealyham, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is a cross of several different terriers and hounds, among them the Bull and the Dandie Dinmont and the Fox terriers and the Westy. Another important part of its genetic makeup is the Flandres Basset Hound. From the Basset the Sealyham acquired the short carriage and the heavy duty front legs capable of digging out burrows quickly and efficiently.
