How to Deskunk Your Dog When They Get Sprayed

Posted by Kimberly on 25th October 2009

My mother’s Westie-Poo, “Sugar”, was sprayed by a skunk in the face about 3 weeks ago, as did my 2 miniature schnauzers, Knosey and Kurious.

We’ve tried to bathe Sugar numerous times with shampoos, tomato juice, mayonnaise and peanut butter, which worked the best of all of these home remedies.

However, my mother still couldn’t stand Sugar’s smell, so we resorted to bringing her to our favorite dog salon, Poodle Fluff & Puff in St. Catharines, Ontario where Joan Schoures and her granddaughter, Dana Sampson, takes care of our doggy’s problem.

Find out how the professionals deskunk your dog in this video:

Once Sugar’s hair dried, it doesn’t smell like skunk anymore! She hasn’t gotten wet since as it hasn’t rained, so I’m not sure what she’ll smell like wet, but it’s certainly more liveable now!

I guess it’s important to Read the rest of this entry »

Diamond’s Terrier Face Haircut

Posted by Kimberly on 13th October 2009

As you all know, we got a new doggy addition to our “K” crew – Karat Diamond

She is a Yorkie-Poo mix, who is a real sweetie-pie.

We brought her in to our favorite dog salon to show her to our favorite groomers and Debbie surprised me with a terrier cut for her face, instead of the poodle-look she had going on, as we have 3 other terriers in our little family, not including my mother’s 2 terriers.

Check out this cool video:

Debbie more clearly defined Diamond’s beautiful, brown eyes and pretty eyebrows, as well as trimming up the sides of her face to make a more brick-like look that schnauzers have, in particular.

She was so well behaved for them and she is such an adorable girl! I’m just in love with this dog!

What kind of Terrier-Poodle mix do you think Read the rest of this entry »

I Need a Good Dog Shampoo!

Posted by Kimberly on 22nd July 2009

I just don’t understand it…

Is your dog itching, scratching and stinking beyond belief?

Do you?

Wash your dog one day, just to have the stink return the next?
Wait weeks between bathing your dog because his skin gets so dry and flaky?
Hate bathing your dog because you rinse and rinse and rinse…and still can’t get him completely rinsed?

Need help? Why not try the all natural dog shampoo Dogosuds ® made by Dinovite, Inc.

Isn’t it time for that new dog smell?

Our dogs, especially Sugar, love to roll around in the grass.

The only problem is, there are sometimes special “packages” on the lawn that were left from earlier that they love to find and roll in.

Why in the world they would love to do this, I do not know…

Then, of course, we smell it and have to give them a bath immediately! NOT COOL…but, hey, they’re doggies, right?

DogOSudsWell, in cases such as these, be sure to use the right dog shampoo that is sensitive enough for their delicate skin and strong enough to eradicate those odors!

You’ll want something that helps get that smell out, is all natural, lathers well and rinses easily, but also has no chemicals or fillers in it whatsoever.

For any kind of “bad” smell, I like to use Dinovite shampoo for all of the reasons above.

It’s all natural, doesn’t irritate their skin and is strong enough, even to get that special “package” scent out, as well as the grass stains!

Dog O Suds does a fabulous job at making your dog smell fantastic and smell like that for a while – it’s long lasting. Plus, it’s a natural flea deterrent, which always helps, especially during summertime!

Know What Dog Shampoo You Need?

Posted by Kimberly on 14th July 2009

Do you…

Wash your dog one day, just to have the “stink” return the very next day?
Wait weeks between bathing your dog because his or her skin gets so dry and flaky?
Hate bathing your dog because you rinse and rinse and rinse…and still can’t get him or her completely rinsed off?

Is your dog itching, scratching and stinking beyond belief?

It certainly could be because of what dog shampoo you’re using…

…Some shampoos are very difficult to rinse out of their hair and can irritate their skin because of it or dry it out – Imagine leaving your shampoo on your arms all day long without rinsing it off – your skin probably wouldn’t be happy either and it would irritate you!

Also, don’t forget…Dogs’ sense of smell is so much greater than our own – something like 8-10 times better.

Imagine smelling your Pantene, but with an intensity of 10x more powerful all day long! Um, that might get to be annoying too…

DogOSudsNeed help? Why not try the all natural dog shampoo Dogosuds made by Dinovite, Inc.

It’s all natural, keeps your dog flea free, smelling great, lathers up well, and has no extra fillers, perfumes or chemicals in it.

It’s great for dogs with sensitive skin as it uses therapeutic, healing, essential natural oils.

What’s also fabulous, especially in the summer time, is that it removes skunk odors! Phew!!! LOL

Try it out – you may LOVE it!  Isn’t it time for that “new dog smell”? :)

Our Doggies Got their Mid-Summer Groom

Posted by Kimberly on 2nd July 2009

We usually take the pups in to the groomer’s, Poodle Fluff & Puff in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada about 3 times per summer.

We like to make sure our dogs aren’t hot in the summer with long hair and possible mats in their coat.

Debbie & Joan are so amazing…They treat the dogs so well, they do such a beautiful job with a super schnauzer/terrier cut and she is beyond reasonable in price!

Again, all 5 of our crew look so amazing – what little cutiepies!

We typically have them cut as short as possible in the summertime, keeping their fabulous Read the rest of this entry »

Newly Trimmed Terrier Family

Posted by Kimberly on 21st March 2009

I wanted to show off the rest of our lovely terriers after their fabulous grooming at the Poodle Fluff & Puff Dog Salon.

If you haven’t had a chance to yet, check out the post right before this one you’re reading, called…

How to Groom a Miniature Schnauzer

…for a great video we made that day of Knosey getting groomed!

new-downloads-017Here’s a “Family” photo of (left to right) Knosey Konversation, Sugar, Kaptain Knickknack, My Precious Princess, Kurious Kissyface (that’s all of their “official” names).

They were all behaving so well that day and cooperated easily with me to capture a great photo of them all!

As you may know, all of them are miniature schnauzers, except for Sugar, who is a Westie-Poo – a West Highland White Terrier and Poodle cross.

Don’t they all look so beautiful?

new-downloads-011I asked Kaptain if he would post for a photo for his Daddy (since he’s away right now), and he immediately jumped off the chair and struck a sweet pose for me! He’s too cute and way too smart.

new-downloads-007Coaxing Kurious was a little more involved, as she was so distracted outside with all the birds and squirrels out now that it’s Spring time, but she did Read the rest of this entry »

How to Groom a Miniature Schnauzer

Posted by Kimberly on 20th March 2009

Ever wonder how professional groomers get your terrier looking so darn good when you pick them up?

I know I have…

So, I thought I’d organize a trip for our terriers to see the groomers @ Poodle Fluff & Puff Dog Salon, Joan Schoures and Debra Deiter. They agreed to show us just how your dog comes out looking like $1 million!

They have been grooming all of our dogs for the past 27 years, and we just love them!

If you want to learn to groom your own dog, or even if you’re just “knosey” to see how the pros clip those beautiful schnauzer eye brows and beards, watch this video that Joan and Debbie were so gracious to do for our Terrier Lovers, featuring one of our minis, Knosey Konversation:

All 5 of our pooches came home looking beautiful, sleek bodied with fluffy legs and big beautiful eyebrows and beards! They actually looking like terriers after that long winter of growing their hair!

They are enjoying themselves outside with the wind a little closer to their skin when they run and soaking up the sunshine…LOL…You can tell they feel so much better and refreshed.

Special thanks to Poodle Fluff & Puff Dog Salon – 93 Carlton St., St. Catharines, Ontario, L2R 1R1, Canada. You can call to make appointments @ (905) 688-6200 or email debdeiter@cogeco.ca

Why We Had to Give Our Yorkshire Terrier Away

Posted by Kimberly on 28th September 2008

My very first dog, when I was 3 or 4 years old, was named “Fluff”, and he was a male Yorkshire Terrier.

He was cute as a button!

However, we had to give him away to another loving family because he was not fond of my father. Fluff did not like my father near him or anyone else in the family. He would growl, snarl and snap at him.

Everything we tried did not help. It was obviously not the right dog for us, as he did not bond with my father.

We were beginners in dog ownership, and obviously did not take the right steps toward behavior modification and Yorkshire terrier training. I missed my little Fluff!

Don’t let this happen to you! Train Your Yorkshire Terrier – regardless of age…with the Amazing Secrets in the:

Train Your Yorkshire Terrier Manual

Train your Yorkie, so that you can have an enjoyable and pleasant relationship with them!

Our little “Fluff” not only was protective from my father, but he would bark incessantly, make messes everywhere, and chew everything in sight! Basically, he was doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, and ruling our home…

Now, You can train your pooch, and you can do it quickly and easily using the Yorkshire terrier training manual!

Let me know how it works by Commenting in the Comment Box below!

Ever Heard of Dog Gas Treatment?

Posted by Kimberly on 19th June 2008

Dog Gas Problem? There are certainly a lot of interesting dog products on the market these days.

There are herbal elixirs, organic and natural remedies for so many different kinds of doggy conditions, preventative herbal supplements…

Wow…the list can go on and on, just like us going to a health food store, vitamin shop, or day spa…So many luxurious fragrances and healthy concoctions to put into our bodies for health and beauty.

Loving pet owners, like us Terrier Lovers, are endeavoring to treat their dogs with natural, organic, herbal and even luxurious products as well.

Okay…ever heard of Dog Gas Treatment? Ummm…yeah…It’s out there…LOL…Actually, one of our dogs has a real problem with this…LOL…we should try this one!

Breath sprays are important too for some dogs. I’ve even seen doggy breath strips…LOL…

Many of the herbal and home remedies that work on humans, often work on pets too…For example, how about trying a special Oatmeal Dog Shampoo for your pooch with itchy skin?

Honestly, I’d rather treat my terriers in a holistic fashion if at all possible, especially preventatively.

Although I sometimes chuckle at the doggy products I see, I am guilty of spoiling my pooches rotten with neat organic mixtures and extravagant scents.

My favorite is a lavender calming spray for when they are a little wound up at night time, or are a little anxious from thunder or fireworks, as we live close to Niagara Falls.

Healthy Coat Tip for Your Terrier

Posted by Kimberly on 19th June 2008

Chef's Planet 8-oz. Olive Oil CruetI wanted to share a super easy tip today for keeping your terrier’s coat shiny and healthy.

A tablespoon of olive oil poured over their dog food will do the trick! This moisturizes their skin and keeps their coat healthy.

Obviously, if you have more than one dog and a larger doggy bowl, you may add more to the dog food.

Just as olive oil is a great supplement for humans, so goes for our canine friends! It can help dogs with arthritis, heart disease and cancers, among other benefits.
