Terriers In The Working Group

Posted by Kimberly on 6th July 2008

I was doing a little reading on my friend’s blog, BigPawBlog.com (cool spot), and wanted to share some of the terriers that are a part of the Working Group, according to the AKC and other kennel clubs.

Dog shows have so many groupings, that it can be difficult to keep all of the dogs straight…

Contrary to popular belief, not all of the terriers are in the “Terrier Group”. There are 27 breeds in the Terrier Group itself, according to the AKC.

Some are in the Toy Group (Australian Silky, English Toy or Black & Tan, Maltese, Manchester, Yorkshire, Toy Fox, sometimes Tibetan or Boston depending upon the kennel club), and some in the Non-Sporting Group (Boston, Tibetan depending on the kennel club).

The Black Russian Terrier Is Everything You Could Want In A Dog

There are many other names for this breed: Black Terrier, Chiorny Terrier, Chornyi, Russian Bear Schnauzer, Russian Black Terrier…

…But one thing remains the same…They win 1st prize for being a well-rounded breed! A companion, worker, herder, hunter, protector…the list goes on and on…

They were originally bred to be guard and police dogs, but with it’s extreme affinity for people, it is a wonderful companion dog through-and-through.
