Australian Silky Terrier – One Tough Customer

The Australian Silky Terrier is one tough customer! That’s right…It was bred in Australia to make a well adapted terrier to the Aussie environment.

And, Yes…It’s true…There are snakes, and other dangerous critters, in people’s backyards in Australia, as I can attest to.

These terriers may be small in stature, but they have huge amounts of courage and heart!

The “Down Under” Breed: The Australian Terrier

Australian Terriers are a tough little breed of terrier. When I lived in Perth, Western Australia, we were in the Darlington Hills. We had so much wildlife, even in our backyard, and my roommates had a little Australian Terrier named Cody.

He was such a sweetheart, and boy was he a little tough guy. Basically, everything can hurt or kill you in Australia (well, a tiny exaggeration, but for the most part…), and he was an outside dog. He had a little house, and dealt with the heat, the cold, the bugs, spiders, snakes and every other creature in our backyard, which was partly “forested”. This is normal for many little dogs in Aussieland. He was well adapted to this environment, that’s for sure! He was certainly tougher than me!!!
