Airedale Terrier – The King of the Terriers
By Evan Richer

The Airedale Terrier is a medium 45 to 65 pound dog that usually reaches between 22″ and 24″. Known as the King of the Terriers, they are largest of the Terrier breeds recognized by the AKC. It is a compact little powerhouse that is all terrier when it comes to chasing little animals or appeasing its curiosity.

Airedale Terriers are typically tan on the ears, head, chest, undersides, legs, and sometimes on the shoulders. They are black or grizzle on the sides and upper parts of the body. Sometimes they have a red mixture on the black or white markings on the chest. Certain strains of the breed also have a small white patch on the chest. Their wiry, dense outer coat requires regular grooming.

If you are looking for a dog with plenty of stamina and energy, look no further. The Airedale Terrier is full of Read the rest of this entry »

The Black Russian Terrier Is Everything You Could Want In A Dog

Posted by Kimberly on 12th October 2007

The Black Russian Terrier is absolutely on of my very favorite terrier breeds! Top 3 I would have to say! They are beautiful, strong, intelligent, athletic, courageous, and tender.

There are many other names for this breed: Black Terrier, Chiorny Terrier, Chornyi, Russian Bear Schnauzer, Russian Black Terrier…

…But one thing remains the same…They win 1st prize for being a well-rounded breed! A companion, worker, herder, hunter, protector…the list goes on and on…

They were originally bred to be guard and police dogs, but with it’s extreme affinity for people, it is a wonderful companion dog through-and-through.

The Black Russian Terrier
By Michael Russell

The Black Russian Terrier is a breed that was “engineered” by the Russians shortly after world War II for the specific purpose of producing a strong, fearless and hardy working dog that could withstand the rigors of the cold Russian winter and would be a strong and formidable protector. The “Red Star” kennels, a state owned and operated kennel, was the name of the government kennel of the Soviet Union whose function was to produce the necessary dogs needed for the military and other important functions. The Manchester Terrier, previously known as the Black and Tan Terrier, is considered to be the oldest identifiable breed of terrier.

The Manchester Terrier (Black and Tan Terrier)
By Michael Russell

For more than a hundred years the Manchester Terrier, originally called the “Black and Tan” Terrier, has remained true to type. It is a sleek and elegant looking little dog, with tan “thumb marks” over the eyes and on the cheeks and black “thumb marks” in the tan above the front feet. Because of his stability of temperament and consistent type this terrier was used in the development of several breeds, among them the Doberman Pinscher, the Pinscher and the Airedale terrier. One can trace the origin of many of the breeds Read the rest of this entry »
