Terriers Mixed with Other Breeds May Shed – Be Prepared!

Posted by Kimberly on 27th January 2009

I’m always looking for a quicker, easier and more efficient way to deal with messes in general.

I know I’ve done a post before that explains Terriers are hypoallergenic and don’t shed.

new-downloads-001However, if your dog is a terrier mix – mixed with another breed of dog that does shed – you may very well have a mess on your hands.

Also, simply having a dog of any kind can be a bit messy with crumbs, mud, sand, etc. on the floor…

If you do, you’ll need to be prepared to tackle this problem with a good vacuum. If you don’t, it may get to be very frustrating constantly vacuuming and sweeping.

I found some information that shows the Kenmore canister ranks at the top on Consumer Reports and is listed as the best canister.

However, reportedly, it has lacks good maneuverability and has poor filtration.

I’m going to show you a video I found about the Go Vacuum Canister and the comparison between it and the Kenmore.

What I felt was shocking about this was that people are purchasing the Kenmore, thinking that it has superior HEPA filtration, but as you could see, it didn’t.

What I loved about the performance of the Miele was that the vacuum is so very quiet.

Why?
If you read my previous post about our dog Knosey, I describe how the dogs feel about the vacuum cleaner in the home.

It’s actually quite a stressful experience for all…The louder and closer it gets to them, the more they fuss and bark, and the more Knosey wants to kill it.

GovacuumlogoThe sheer lack of noise while the Miele is operating is fabulous!

Not to mention that the laser recorded absolutely no dust coming out of that machine…Not even 1 particle…The regular air was up over 200,000 particles. That’s unbelievable and will leave you with a much cleaner home and much less allergy-causing dust!

* Fact: Did you know that dust, in general, is acidic? Being acidic, it will start to fade your furniture fabric or anything else it’s on…

That crush proof hose sounds like a great idea because when you’re trying to “shew” away the dogs, it’s easy to step on it and anything could happen…

The sheer ease this vacuum picked up the dog hair was fabulous! That’s the most important feature for animal owners whose animals shed. Also, I hate having to grab the crevace tool to get the corners! Uhhh! This worked on the corners really great!

Plus, the maneuverability was far superior to that of the Kenmore. I don’t know about you, but it gets on my last nerve to drag a vacuum around that doesn’t want to move the way I want it to!

If I have pure bred terriers, why do I care?
Out of the 5 dogs we have in the home – 3 are ours, 2 are my mother’s…She has a white Westie-Poo, but I think she may be even more mixed than that.

She leaves a lot of white hair on my mother’s maroon carpet in the dining room and we have to vacuum quite a bit, as there is a large window to the front of the house there and the dogs frequent the window to “protect” us and warn us of visitors or intruders.

Anything that can make our lives easier is great…We are in the market for a new vacuum now! I’m glad I watched this video…

Knosey Konversation – The Miniature Schnauzer

Posted by Kimberly on 22nd January 2009

new-downloads-020Our little Knosey is now 2 1/2 yrs old now.

She weighs around 18 lbs and has turned a Platinum color from being pitch black as a puppy over 1 1/2 yrs ago now.

Her eyes are almond shaped and it almost looks like when you’d pull your hair back tight in a ponytail…She has a gorgeous eye and nose area.

What can we say about Knosey…

She lives up to her name…Our dogs are all named with “K” names. My mother’s mini schnauzer is Precious.

We already had Kaptain for 1 1/2 yrs and Kurious was already named, then we got Knosey, as our little Kahlua passed away as a pup with a kidney and liver defect and was being nursed back to health by the breeder.

While my hubby was driving her up to Canada from Dallas, she kept trying to get in his face when he was on the phone, and since we named Kurious, well, Kurious, it seemed only fitting that she was Knosey…

Her middle name came from the fact that she always wants to be in your face…So, Knosey Konversation stuck!

Our Knosey-Posie is a “gentle giant” of sorts.

Great Winter Escape with Dog Friendly Luxury Hotel

Posted by Kimberly on 8th January 2009

puppymugshotWhen we travel, we almost always bring our miniature schnauzers with us…at least 1 of them per person.

Photo left: Kurious, Kaptain and Knosey with their winter hair cuts!

So, whenever we plan our travel, it’s choreographed around them!

* Tip: Always be sure to ask if the hotel you want to stay at allows dogs or is “dog friendly”.

We have recently been trying to plan our trips for this year, and we came across Branson, Missouri. I had no idea how many fabulous things there are to do there.

They’ve got: 3rd Annual Ice Carving, 2009 Polar Plunge, championship golf courses, lakes, museums, theme parks and 49 live entertainment theaters.

This sounds to me like a great Winter Escape Package!

Hiltonsocial-ad-300x400There are 2 Hilton hotels that are within easy driving distance from all of the attractions. In fact, the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing is having it’s 2nd Anniversary this year too.

Now that we made sure there’s a lot to do in the area, then we start looking for great lodging.

Out of the 2 Hilton hotels there, the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel is pet friendly.

It looks so beautiful and is located in the heart of historic downtown Branson, Mizzou. The hotel is a 12-story glass tower…How cool is that?

The Convention Center hotel is located across from the Hilton Promenade and the new Branson Landing retail and entertainment district situated on Lake Taneycomo and just minutes from Table Rock Lake too.

Usually, whenever we’ve been to Missouri, it was for me to play Softball with Texas A&M University against their universities, and for my husband, he would have been competing in Track & Field at the same unis.

So, actually spending some time taking in the attractions will be fun and a change of pace from what we’re used to.

Visiting the lakes will probably be the best attraction of  for us and our 3 dogs.

We are also hopeless “foodies”, so I’m sure we’ll be searching out some serious hometown favorites and gourmet fare alike. We’d be sure to take in a show of live theater, and maybe a few movies we would rent to hang out with the dogs in the room…LOL…

I’m sure we’ll enjoy a quick dip in the swimming pool and their work-out gym.

Chillin’ out in the winter…that’s what we need…

A week getaway with our babies…

Expectations with College Pets

Posted by Kimberly on 3rd January 2009

This is a tad of a rant, but more of a plead to students getting pets while they are in college or university…

My niece is in college for Nursing and just moved in with a student, who is also in the Nursing program at the same school.

They got along wonderfully beforehand and my niece took her time to get to know the girl, stay at her place and evaluate whether she’d be happy living there before she moved in.

Well, she’s been there for just over 1 month now, and is looking to move out to get her very own bachelorette apartment.

bostonterrier3monthsWhy?
Her roommate’s boyfriend gave her a Boston terrier puppy for Christmas, and it was originally agreed upon that this puppy would live at the boyfriend’s home the majority of the time.

The puppy is now staying at the girls’ apartment full-time.

So?
Being a student in college, especially in a rigorous Nursing program, you are gone most of the day. Also, it’s the nature of the game that you are probably going to have to work as a student in college. Correct?

What Does This Mean?
It means that the puppy is left the entire day with no one to teach it, or care for it. In fact, she is not even crate training the pup.

The Roommate’s Expectation:
That my niece, her roommate, should take on full responsibility for training, walking and caring for the pup when she is not there.

This is not a Read the rest of this entry »
