Precious Is Resting Comfortably After Her Spaying Surgery

by Kimberly Edwards on March 6, 2008

dsc00162.JPGWe were called this morning by the veterinarian letting us know that Precious was doing well, ate her breakfast by herself, and was ready to be picked up after her ovariohysterectomy surgery yesterday (aka spayed).

See Beginning of the Saga here:
Ovariohysterectomy – How to Prepare for Your Dog Being Spayed

When we arrived to pick Precious up at the vet, we got a certificate stating that Precious had been spayed as the assistant retrieved Precious.

They told us that she really missed her family at home, and knowing how “vocal” Precious is, I know she was howling and whining for us.

When she saw us, a look of relief that we didn’t just forget about her came over her face. She then proceeded to cry loudly, as if to tell us that she was all by herself, in the dark, and her belly hurt and she missed us…It was so heart wrenching to hear her story she wanted to tell us…that she missed us so much.

Our other dogs at the house were so excited to see Precious back, as they kept coming up to me all night disturbed, as if trying to tell me that we forgot her at the vet that day…

Although they were excited to see Precious, they were all immediately aware that they should not maul her or play as usual. The thoroughly sniffed her and laid down next to her to comfort her.

The doctor administered a pain management injection before Precious was released and it seems to be helping. She is somewhat dosey still, but comfortable.

Precious has eaten some dog food by hand, and had some fruit as well. She has gone outside a few times with no problem.

She has not bothered licking or irritating the surgical site, so is not in need of a collar.

Her incision is about 4 inches long and she has internal stitches that will not need to be taken out.

All in all, she is simply happy to be home with her loving family…

Precious is a little more active today…still sleeping quite a bit though…

She is very constipated, so we are giving her bits of fruit and homemade doggy biscuits made with grains:

March 7th…

Precious’ incision is healing nicely and she is leaving it alone.

She is starting to get back to her usual self and playing gently with the other dogs.

Kurious, our 1.5 yr old female, is a mother-hen and brings Precious toys so she doesn’t have to get them herself…Soooo sweet!
